Musically speaking, this hard-to-categorize album follows a clear path of orchestral techno-punk rap. There are plenty of strings, and harmony takes center stage in many tracks. The raw texture of the analog sounds from Elektron’s Analog Rytm MK2 blends with a multitude of samples and carefully selected ambient sounds—drawn from their personal field recording library—to give the entire body of work greater coherence between form and content. The lyrics are sung, rapped, whispered, screamed, and harmonized.
