There are records you listen to, and there are records you step into. Caribbean Serenade belongs to the latter - one of those rare recordings that draws you in immediately: warm, unforced, and nostalgic. It is the sonic equivalent of a golden Caribbean evening, an intimate serenade that feels like an invitation and a meeting point between roots reggae & rocksteady, with the richness of swing-era horn writing, capped off by classic dub remixes. It’s an organic synthesis that reveals a combination of musical languages rarely heard in this form.

At its core is a 20-year bond between Martin Mayr (Roots Organisation), Mauricio-Jorán Ceseña and Jannis Klenke (The Black Oak Roots Allstars), alongside aDUBta - the producer and multi-instrumentalist who helped shape the album’s sonic identity. Distilling decades of mutual trust into a showcase that feels both effortless and precise, Caribbean Serenade brings back a shared musical language and intuition spanning more than two decades.

Recorded at Attic Roots Studio, The Black Oak Roots Allstars provide a tight, organic rocksteady foundation, allowing Mayr’s compositions to flourish. Picking up the saxophone and flute for this record, Mayr contributes his deep passion for arranging. His writing is a cornerstone of the album’s identity: warm, four-part horn arrangements shaped by jazz and swing traditions, where the horn section leads. The arrangements are further elevated by Simon Kintopp’s trombone solos and Fabian Supancic’s gritty, bluesy organ.

Ultimately, aDUBta’s production brings every element into sharp focus. A devotee of analog aesthetics, his commitment to the "golden era" shapes the entire record from tracking to the final mix. Each of the six instrumental pieces is paired with a live dub version, mixed in real-time on a Tascam 388. The result is a rare, masterfully crafted synthesis of reggae, rocksteady and swing-era horns. Caribbean Serenade is a timeless vibration, captured perfectly in the moment.
