"Alive On Arrival draws inspiration from what feels like my entire life as a producer, a DJ and a music fan, bringing together everything I love about house, hip- hop, UK music, soulful R&B and wider global sounds.
The name comes from Wu-Tang Clan's C.R.E.A.M., which felt fitting to where I'm at in my musical journey. It's been 15 years as Mele, but I'm still alive and feel like I've got so much more to give. I've finally arrived at this point with my debut album.

Set for release on 25 September, Alive On Arrival is Mele's most expansive project to date. Across fourteen tracks, he draws together house, hip-hop, soul and R&B into a record that reflects a lifetime spent moving between genres rather than being limited by them. Created between London, Miami and his hometown of Liverpool, the album captures the energy and musical history of three cities that have shaped both his sound and perspective.
At the heart of Alive On Arrival is collaboration. Rather than simply assembling a list of featured artists, Mele has curated a cast of voices whose individual perspectives deepen the emotional and cultural narrative of the album. Long-time collaborators sit alongside new creative partnerships, each contributing to a record built on shared musical language and mutual respect.
Featured throughout the album are acclaimed lyricists, vocalists and producers including Jords, Wonky Logic, Roland Clark, Lex Amor, RIA, IRAH, Marla Kether, Reek0, K.O.G and Bontan. From the uplifting chemistry of 'So High' with Jords and Wonky Logic, to the soulful introspection of 'Soul Flower (Move Like Me)' featuring Lex Amor, right through to the sultry grooves of 'Get A Little Down' (featuring Reek0 & Marla Kether) each collaboration feels intentional, allowing every artist space to leave their own imprint while serving the wider vision of the record.
The result is an album that feels collective without losing its identity. Mele remains the connective thread throughout, bringing together artists from different scenes, backgrounds and disciplines with a producer's instinct for cohesion and a curator's ear for storytelling.
The album title itself reflects this philosophy. Alive On Arrival nods to Wu-Tang Clan's C.R.E.A.M., drawing inspiration from hip-hop's tradition of lived experience, resilience and reinvention. For Mele, this isn't the beginning of a career but the culmination of years spent refining his craft, the sound of an artist arriving entirely on his own terms.
While rooted in house music, Alive On Arrival pushes confidently beyond the genre's traditional boundaries and what could be expected of an album on Defected Records, an iconic London label Mele has a rich and storied past with. Hip-hop lyricism, soulful songwriting, global influences and club-focused production sit side by side, reflecting Mele's own varied sound as a producer and selector.
In doing so, the album also signals an exciting new chapter for Defected Records. Alive On Arrival expands the label's sonic palette while remaining true to the spirit of house music, presenting a record that feels progressive, emotionally resonant and culturally connected. Featuring a diverse cast of collaborators whose voices span UK rap, spoken word, soul, Afro-influenced music and house, the album demonstrates a broader vision of what a Defected release can sound like in 2026.
