The legendary Robert Johnson (1911-1938) stands at the crossroads of American music and the first modern bluesman to progress country blues of the Mississippi Delta to an urban sensibility. Johnson was a songwriter of searing depth and a guitar player with a commanding ability that inspired every blues artist that followed in his wake. The blues giant's legacy is deeply enveloped in myth and several songs from his LP were repeatedly covered throughout the blues-rock explosion of the 1960's by many artists, notably Eric Clapton, Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, The Rolling Stones, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, and ZZ Top, among many others.
