Fantastic, beautifully played, written and recorded guitar and flute-driven
progressive rock from Diabolus, with a real Court of the Crimson King
feel (both the brutal and delicate sides) and a strong Krautrock vibe.
Remastered by Reynolds Mastering from 1971 Studio tapes.
Their rare and highly regarded LP from 1972 on German Bellaphon, is well
known to collectors. What isn’t known is the full, crazy story around it. Their
manager persuaded Shel Talmy to pay for studio sessions in July 1971.
When Shel heard the results, he went nuts, saying they “had no commercial
potential”, and sent them back into the studio in late August 1971 to try
again. He hated the results even more, sacked the band and eventually
sold the second sessions to Bellaphon in Germany to try and get some of
his money back. The band were oblivious to its release for 35 years! This
is the original unheard July session, waiting in a vault for over 50 years.
Only ONE song (the title track) appears on the released LP and it’s a very
different version.
