Blanco - Gilberto's Son Blanco
Pickup currently unavailable at Record Plant Farsley
Expanding his artistic influences and repertoire, Blanco continues to dip into an array of international sonic influences, flexing his bars to remind us why he is heralded as one of the UK's most exciting and experimental lyricists emanating from these shores right now with over 2.4M dedicated monthly Spotify listeners.
Fresh from huge performances at Glastonbury Festival and All Points East, Blanco has been busy heading campaigns for the likes of Nike Air Jordan x END Clothing as well as attending key shows throughout the Paris Fashion Week schedule. His recent collaboration with garage and bassline DJ Interplanetary Criminal for "Races" (performing the track live at a recent Warehouse Project), Blanco continues to tear up the rulebook, a recent trip to Brasil seeing him meet with some of the hottest rappers and producers in the territory incl. El Lif and LEALL as he taps into the South American ties of his Angolan heritage. 2023 proved to be a huge year for the South West London rapper, following up his GRM DAILY 'Daily Duppy' freestyle with potential UK rap mixtape of the year in ReBourne, consisting of twelve high- quality tracks and boasting features from the likes of Kojey Radical and Avelino, as well as boundary- pushing producers such as Litek, Jens Muller, Alexaybeats, ATG and KXLLAK. Fusing a range of genres and influences, ReBourne highlights Blanco's growing sophistication and earned critical attention across the spectrum from THE GUARDIAN, WONDERLAND, CLASH, HUCK MAGAZINE, COMLPEX UK and DJ MAG amongst others.
Most notably, the mixtape delivered a hit with "Brilliant Mind" -- 42M Spotify streams -- which remained in the top of the Official Charts for 6 weeks, as well as being added to the B- list on BBC RADIO 1 and placing in the Spotify viral charts in the UK and internationally. To top off the track's success, Manchester's hottest rapper Nemzzz hopped on the remix duty, racking up a cool 23M+ streams so far.
Originally inspired by the nascent drill sounds emanating from US pioneers Lil Jay, Chief Keef, and Rondo Numba Nine, Blanco first came to prominence with his leading role in renowned drill collective Harlem Spartans -- featuring on one of the most iconic drill offerings to date "Kennington Where It Started" alongside Bis, Active and MizOrMac. Over the last five years, the single has racked up over 21M Spotify streams and 20M YouTube views on the official video.
The last 12 months have been impressive for Blanco. He has driven over 200M streams, his hit single Brilliant Mind was in the singles charts for 7 weeks and certified Silver, and he performed at Glastonbury and AllPoints East. Gilberto's Son showcases his rise over the past year and evolving artistry, positioning as a force in UK rap. The album blends Latin influences with Blanco's signature style and the focus track Sombrero captures this fusion perfectly as bold, vibrant, and infectious.
